Building my portfolio website was an exciting, challenging, and occasionally frustrating journey, but one that taught me a lot. My main goals were clear: create a site that showcases my work, shares my journey, and helps me connect with others. The problem? I had just three weeks to make it happen, and while I had some knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, it wasn’t enough to bring my vision to life on my own. That’s when I decided to turn to AI tools like ChatGPT for help.
Working with ChatGPT was a game-changer, but it came with its own learning curve. At first, I wasn’t sure how to phrase my questions or requests to get the results I wanted. It took some trial and error to figure out how to clearly explain my ideas, debug issues, and ask for improvements to the code. Once I got the hang of it, things started falling into place. I was able to generate working code, troubleshoot problems, and refine the design much faster than I could have on my own.
One of the best parts of this process was the ability to iterate quickly. With ChatGPT’s support, I could test out ideas, tweak layouts, and adjust functionality without getting stuck on the details. Along the way, I not only built the site but also developed a deeper understanding of coding concepts and the web development process.
By the end of the project, I realized there were some things I would do differently if I started over. For example, I now have a better sense of how the site could have been structured from the beginning to make future updates and feature additions smoother. This isn’t the final version of my portfolio, it’s a work in progress. I plan to continue refining the site, adding new features, and applying the lessons I’ve learned to improve it over time.
What this project ultimately showed me is the incredible potential of combining human creativity with AI tools. AI helped me bridge gaps in my knowledge and skills, and it made tackling a big project like this feel more manageable. I’m excited to keep building on this foundation, not just for this website but for other projects that blend engineering, design, and technology.
